Box Score ERIE, PA – The #6 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated the Shippensburg University Raiders by a score of 18-2 Saturday morning.
Rebecca Himes led the team in points for the contest, scoring 5 goals and adding 1 assist.
The Lakers scored the first seventeen goals of the match today. The first goal of the game was picked up at the 27:31 mark, when Himes found
Jenna Schlagenhauf in front of the net. Next, midfielder
Mackenzie Jordan converted a free position shot to make the game 2-0. Himes found herself in scoring position, as she put one past the goalie at 24:13.
Hannah Corton successfully converted a free position shot to make the contest 4-0.
The next three goals were scored on unassisted shots by
Carly Zimmerman, Becca Himes, and
Regan Kaestner to make the game 7-0. Scoring momentum continued in the first half as Schlagenhauf and Himes rounded out the scoring, netting 4 goals to take the game into halftime 11-0.
Once again, Himes opened up the scoring for the Laker attack in the second half. Then at 19:55, senior
Taylor Ventre converted a free position shot to make the game 13-0. Corton found junior
Emily Gebhardt in front of the net to score the next goal for Mercyhurst.
Morgan Parker and
Grace Lawson were able to score the next two goals for the Lakers on unassisted shots. The seventeenth goal of the game was scored by
Olivia Keirn, as Gebhardt found her in front of the net at 13:57. Zimmerman scored the final goal of the contest for Mercyhurst before Shippensburg found the back of the net one final time.
Kyra Maludy started in net for the Lakers, and she picked up 3 saves between the pipes.
Rebecca Muscella started the second half in goal for Mercyhurst. She finished the game with 4 saves of her own.
The Lakers return to action this coming week for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship series. Lock Haven will be hosting the events on May 1
st and May 2
nd. Mercyhurst (10-2 PSAC) is in second place and will be receiving a bye for the first round.
