ERIE, PA – The #7 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team took care of the East Stroudsburg Warriors Friday afternoon 16-7. Senior
Rebecca Himes had 9 points in the contest, scoring 4 goals and 5 assists.
The Lakers started off strong on offense, scoring the first three goals of the contest. Himes was able to generate offensive momentum, assisting teammates
Regan Kaestner,
Emily Gebhardt, and
Mackenzie Jordan as they scored their first goals of the game. Halfway through the first half, Jordan picked up an unassisted goal to make the contest 4-1. However, the lead was short lived as the Warriors rallied back with a four goal retaliation to send the game into halftime with ESU leading 5-4.
After the half, the Lakers were able to find their groove. Senior midfield,
Taylor Ventre, scored her first goal of the game just 24 seconds into the second half to tie up the game 5-5. Himes and Jordan were then able to score another pair of goals making the game 7-5. At 20:08, Ventre found the back of the net again before teammate
Jenna Schlagenhauf scored her first goal of the game shortly thereafter.
The next three goals for the Lakers were scored by the trio of Himes, Schlagenhauf, and Gebhardt. With 7:15 and 6:26 left in the second, Himes scored her final two goals to make the game 14-6.
Jenna Schlagenhauf was able to pick up a goal and an assist to
Olivia Keirn to round out the scoring for the Laker attack. Goalie,
Rebecca Muscella, had 4 saves and is credited with the win.
The Lakers had 35 shots and collected 19 ground balls for the game.
The squad returns to Tullio Field tomorrow afternoon at 12:00pm to host fellow PSAC rival, West Chester.
