ERIE, PA - The #7 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team defeated the #16 West Chester Golden Rams 12-4 on Saturday afternoon. Senior midfielder
Mackenzie Jordan led the Lakers with 3 goals and 1 assist.
Taylor Ventre opened up the scoring for the Lakers within the first minute to play scoring one of her two goals of the game on a free position shot. West Chester answered back with two goals of their own scored by Ashley Pyle and Erin Eckert on the Golden Rams attack. Mercyhurst was then able to go on a 9 goal scoring streak to make a statement that lasted throughout the entire game. Jordan found the back of the net to tie up the game at 21:46 in the first and the squad never looked back.
Jenna Schlagenhauf took a free position shot scoring at 19:41. Jordan then took control and scored twice again for the Lakers, being assisted by
Rebecca Himes and
Hannah Corton to round out the scoring in the first half.
Just twelve seconds into the second half,
Emily Gebhardt took charge and shot a rocket into the back of the net to make the game 8-2. Her goal was followed by free position goals coming from sophomore
Carly Zimmerman and junior
Olivia Keirn. West Chester was able to add a goal of their own with :32 seconds left in the half, but Schlagenhauf and Himes sealed the deal for the Lakers with unassisted goals to conclude the offensive momentum for this game. Senior goalie
Rebecca Muscella had 5 saves on the game and is credited with the win.
The Lakers picked up 16 of 26 ground balls for the game and won 10 out of 18 draw controls.
The team returns to action next Wednesday, 4/1 on the road versus Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA. The game has a 4:00pm start.
