#7 Women’s Lacrosse Earns First PSAC Win; Decisions Millersville, 18-11

MILLERSVILLE, PA – The #7 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team won its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match by defeating Millersville 18-11 Saturday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder, Carly Zimmerman, scored a career high five goals in the contest.

Senior, Mackenzie Jordan, scored first for the Lakers sinking the ball past the Millersville goalie with 29:46 left in the first half. Shortly after, Millersville returned with a lone goal of their own. Carly Zimmerman answered back and scored the next two goals on free position shots for the Laker attack.

Senior, Rebecca Himes, was able to score an unassisted goal for the Lakers to make the game 4-2 in the first half. Capitalizing on Millersville fouls, Mercyhurst was able to convert all three of their awarded free position shots to close out the half with scoring. Olivia Keirn, Carly Zimmerman, and Taylor Ventre were all contributors to this scoring momentum.

Millersville came out strong in the second half and scored quickly to make the game 8-5 with 28:30 remaining. But, this was no problem for the Lakers offense. Senior attack, Jenna Schlagenhauf, was able to score the next two of her three goals of the game on free position shots. Schlagenhauf then went on to assist teammates Emily Gebhardt and Himes as they each scored a goal to make the game 12-7.

Mercyhurst was able to go on a seven goal scoring streak to last through the second half with more goals from Keirn, Schlagenhauf, and Zimmerman. Zimmerman and Mackenzie Jordan each added another goal to round out the scoring for the Lakers. Goalie, Rebecca Muscella, had 6 saves and is credited with the win.

In total, the Lakers had 27 shots on goal and picked up 20 ground balls. The squad was able to win 24 out of 31 draw controls.

Mercyhurst returns to Tullio Field this weekend for a pair of PSAC matches hosting East Stroudsburg University and West Chester University of Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday.
