EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's basketball team dropped a 59-50 decision at East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover game. The loss drops Mercyhurst to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in PSAC play, while the Warriors improve to 2-7, 1-5.
Adrienne Kloecker recorded her 1,000th career point a minute and half into the contest, becoming the 17th player in Mercyhurst women's basketball program history to reach the feat.
Angela Heintz also recorded her second double-double in back-to-back days, going for 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Kloecker would reach the milestone with her first shot attempt of the game, a three pointer, to put her at 1,001 career points, and tie the game at three early on. She drained two threes in the opening period. The Lakers would end the first on a 9-3 spurt, heading into the second with a 14-11 advantage.
East Stroudsburg would regain the lead, 19-18, with a 1:56 to play in the half. Heintz, then, reclaimed the lead for the Lakers with three seconds remaining, when she converted a layup, to give Mercyhurst a 20-19 advantage at the break.
Mercyhurst would lead by as many as six in the third period, but were unable to put the Warriors away. East Stroudsburg crawled within one to begin the final frame.
With 7:06 to play, the game was tied at 39; but from there, the Warriors would outscore the Lakers 20-11, leading by as many 10 in the period.
The Warrior bench was difference as they produced 17 points to the Lakers one. East Stroudsburg also held +10 rebound advantage (49-39).
The Lakers will travel back home to host Ursuline College in non-conference action Wednesday, December 9, at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center (MAC). Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
