WORCESTER, Mass. -- A five-goal deficit was too much to overcome as the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team fell to Holy Cross, 7-3, in Atlantic Hockey Competition on Saturday.
Jack Riley had a two-point night for the Lakers, finishing with a goal and an assist.
Kyle Cook and
Josh Lammon also scored goals.
With Mercyhurst trailing 5-0 in the third period, Riley put the Lakers on the board with a power-play goal. He received assists from
Derek Barach and
Jonathan Charbonneau.
Cook's goal was shorthanded -- with an assists from
Jeremy Wu -- before Lammon finished out the scoring with assists from Riley and
Lester Lancaster.
Mercyhurst goaltender
Adam Carlson finished with 35 saves. Winning goalie Paul Berrafato stopped 27 shots for Holy Cross and allowed only one goal before he was relieved.
Jake Bolton was the leading-point getter for Holy Cross, recording one goal and two assists.
Holy Cross (9-6-0, 8-3-0)Â held a 42-31 shot advantage. The Crusaders were 3 of 6 on the power play while Mercyhurst went 1 for 5.
The Lakers (8-8-0, 6-4-0) will be in action next on Saturday, Jan. 2, and Sunday, Jan. 3, when they meet the Rochester Institute of Technology for a home-and-home series: first at RIT at 4:05 p.m. and then in Erie at 7:05 p.m. on the following day.
