Women's Ice Hockey Skates Past RMU, 4-1

ERIE, Pa. -- Emily Janiga scored two goals as the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team earned a 4-1 victory over Robert Morris in College Hockey America action on Friday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Lauren Kilroy and Jennifer MacAskill also scored goals for the Lakers (8-7-2, 6-0-1), who took command with three goals in the second period. Jenna Dingeldein made two assists.

Janiga scored the game's first goal, tallying a short-handed goal earn in the second, and the Lakers never looked back. Dingeldein assisted that score.

Kilroy had her goal on a 5-on-3 power play, getting assists from Morgan Stacey and Taylor Accursi. MacAskill was credited with her goal after the puck directed off her skates and into the RMU net. Dingeldein and Paige Horton made assists on that play as the host Lakers took a three-goal lead.

Brittany Howard provided the Colonials' only goal with 7:01 left in the contest.

Janiga finished the scoring with 12 seconds left -- her second short-handed goal of the game. She finished the play into an empty net.

Mercyhurst goaltender Sarah McDonnell earned the win with 17 saves while her counterpart, Jessica Dodds, stopped 18 shots for Robert Morris (9-6-2, 3-3-1).

The Lakers outshot the Colonials, 22-18. MU went 1-for-4 on the power play while RMU was 0 of 5.

The same two teams will meet again on Saturday at 2 p.m.
