Bloomsburg, Pa. – After Tuesday's shooting woes, the Mercyhurst men's basketball team came out firing from all cylinders Friday. The Lakers went on to shoot a season-high 58.8% (10-17) from downtown, compared to a 1 of 18 earlier this week, helping Mercyhurst defeat Bloomsburg, 88-48. With the win, the Lakers improve to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play, while the Huskies fall to 4-4, 2-2 PSAC.
Bloomsburg would open an early three point lead two minutes into the half before the Lakers went on a 47-5 run to close out the final 18 minutes of the first half. Mercyhurst finished the half shooting 19 of 31 (61.3%) from the floor and 6 of 9 (66.7) from three, while holding the Huskies to just 3 of 18 (16.7%) shooting and forcing 16 turnovers.
Mercyhurst would lead by as many as 49 before pumping the breaks and cruising to a 40 point victory. The win marks the largest margin of victory since February 8, 2012 when the Lakers defeated Clarion at home by 38, 91-53.
It was a balanced attack as 11 of 15 Lakers recorded field goals.
Kayode Ajenifuja led the way, scoring a game-high 15 points, while
Justin Senou (12) and
Andy Hoying (11) also recorded double digits.
Mercyhurst will travel to East Stroudsburg tomorrow for another PSAC crossover contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Koehler Arena.
