Williams Fuels Lakers Comeback at East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG – Damon Jones led four Mercyhurst players in double-figures to lift the Lakers to a 72-67 decision over East Stroudsburg.

Jones had a team-high 18 points while Gerrae Williams and Sean Beins each added 16 points.  Kayode Ajenifuja contributed 11 markers for the Lakers as the unit improved to 6-2 overall, 4-2 in the PSAC.

East Stroudsburg moved to 6-3, 3-3 PSAC and were aided by three Warriors in double-figures, including a game-high 19 points from Jamal Nwaniemeka.

Mercyhurst trailed by one at halftime after leading for a majority of the opening stanza. Will Brown's 3-pointer with a minute left in the first half gave the Warriors the edge.

East Stroudsburg stretched its advantage to six points to open the second half but the Lakers quickly answered and tied the game on a Williams' 3-pointer at 16:07.  From there, East Stroudsburg tied the game again and took the lead 45-44 at 13:10.  However, that was the Warriors last lead of the game as Mercyhurst went on an 18-4 run and took a commanding 62-49 lead with 7:13 to play.

Williams had nine of his 16 points during the stretch to fuel the Lakers' comeback.

Mercyhurst has now won two straight and will travel to Notre Dame College on Dec 12 for a nonconference matchup.
