Sean Beins scored 17 points and
Kayode Ajenifuja put in 16 as the Mercyhurst men's basketball team claimed an 86-54 non-conference win over Salem International on Sunday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
Gerrae Williams added 10 points,
Andy Hoying grabbed seven rebounds and
H'ian Hale dished six assists for the Lakers (8-4), who used consecutive-point runs of 14, 10 and 9 to take a 43-19 halftime lead.
Mercyhurst's largest lead in the second half was 42 points. It forced the visiting Tigers into 32 turnovers while committing 11. The Lakers held a 35-29 rebound advantaqge and finished 35 of 69 from the field (51.5 percent).
Conrad Etchi led SIU (3-9) with 17 points and seven rebounds. Saquan Epps added 12 points and seven rebounds while Tyler Bell and Victor Blakey contributed 11 points apiece.
Mercyhurst will be in action next on Sunday, Jan. 3, when it visits Mansfield for a 3 p.m. PSAC contest.
