Box Score ERIE, Pa. – Erin Byrnes made the most of Mercyhurst's Senior Day in the Lakers' regular-season home finale, tallying 22 kills and 13 digs to lead a sweep of Slippery Rock (25-17, 25-15, 28-26) on Saturday.
 
Fellow classmate Lexi Stefanov was incredibly efficient in limited action, hitting .417 with six kills in 12 attempts against one error.  On defense, she added a block solo and block assist.
 
The third member of the 2015 senior class, Kelly Vitt, dished out 38 helpers on the team's 50 kills and recorded 12 digs.
 
The Lakers (16-15, 11-9 PSAC) started off the match sluggish adjusting to a different pace of play from last night's upset of Edinboro.  However, Mercyhurst came back from a 10-5 deficit to knot the score 12-12, battling through before finding momentum to stretch the advantage to 21-16 and forcing Slippery Rock (10-23, 3-17 PSAC) to call a timeout.  The Lakers continued to swing and closed out the opening stanza 25-17.
 
Mercyhurst came out fast in set two, rushing out to a 14-4 lead before The Rock slowly chipped away to close the gap to 17-10.  The Lakers kept the foot on the gas and closed out by a 25-15 final.
 
Slippery Rock held it close in the third set, taking a quick lead in the opening points before Mercyhurst was able to rebound and close the gap midway through the set.  The Lakers held the advantage 21-20 before Slippery Rock knotted the score on block, 21-21 and at 26-26.  Finally, a kill by Byrnes and a hitting error by The Rock ended the match.
 
Mercyhurst used substitutions throughout to keep a refreshed lineup as the Lakers look to make a run at the postseason in the final two games of the season.  Abby Rose, Larissa Cass, Alyssa Kling, Makayla Molle, Shelby Chesko and Kyla Miles were among those entering the game.
 
The Lakers return to action next weekend Nov. 13-14 with away games at IUP and Clarion.
