Men’s Soccer Posts Shutout at Pitt-Johnstown, 3-0, Saturday Afternoon

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team shutout Pitt-Johnstown, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play. The Lakers improve their record to 4-7, 4-1 while the Mountain Cats fall to 1-9, 0-5.

Eyale Dagne, a Nairobi, Kenya native, got the Lakers started right before the half, scoring off a cross pass from Hunter Burri into the box. It was Dagne's first goal of the season.

Hunter Burri would again receive an assist after he posted a shot off the crossbar that found Ruaidhri McGuire for the rebound shot. McGuire's shot beat Mountain Cats goalkeeper Nate Kleya for a, 2-0, Mercyhurst lead.

Freshman Michael Blancato, a Sydney, Australia native, finished off the scoring as he blasted a shot from the left side and beat the keeper far post. It was Blancato's first career goal.

Starting net minder Daniel Lowton posted three saves as he recorded his second win of the season.

Mercyhurst outshot the Mountain Cats, 23-8, and also held the corner kick advantage, 6-5.

The Lakers will host Shippensburg in a PSAC matchup Saturday, October 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
