ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst University men's soccer team shutout Shippensburg, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
Richard Vanhorne scored the Lakers' lone goal to help Mercyhurst improve to 5-7, 5-1 PSAC. The Raiders fall to 5-7, 2-6 PSAC.

Mercyhurst outshot Shippensburg 8-4 in the opening 45 minutes although the Raiders had a 2-1 margin in corner kicks. Each team was assessed a yellow card during first half play.
The Lakers' stellar defense continued in the second half as the Raiders offense put heavy pressure on goalkeeper
Daniel Lowton. Shippensburg posted nine second half shots to Mercyhurst's six, but Lowton was able to come away with five saves and recorded his third shutout of the season in just five games.
Mercyhurst edged the Raiders in shots, 14-13, while Shippensburg held the corner advantage, 7-1.
The Lakers will resume conference play Tuesday at home against California Pa. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
