Women’s Soccer Shutout at Kutztown, 2-0, Saturday Afternoon

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown Golden Bears scored twice within a 13-minute span in the second half to defeat the Mercyhurst University women's soccer team 2-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match Saturday. The Golden Bears, fourth in the Atlantic Region and third in the PSAC, improved to 10-4-1 overall and to 10-4 in the conference. The Golden Bears have won eight of their last nine matches. The Lakers fell to 6-8-2 and 5-8-2 respectively.

After a scoreless first half, Kutztown finally dented the scoreboard at 65:59 when senior Logan Kramer headed a corner from sophomore Morgan Staley past Mercyhurst junior goaltender Kristen Koch and into the top left corner of the net. Nearly thirteen minutes later (78:34), the Lakers were assessed a yellow card and the resultant free kick from Staley was knocked in by junior Alaina Curry.

Kutztown outshot Mercyhurst 32-11 (12-4 in shots on goal) and took 14 of the match's 20 corner kicks.

Mercyhurst has been held to one goal-or-less nine times this season (0-8-1) and has been blanked four times (0-3-1).

The Lakers will host Lake Erie College Tuesday at 3:30.
