Field Hockey Blanked at #3 West Chester, 2-0, Wednesday Afternoon

WEST CHESTER, PA – The Mercyhurst field hockey team was blanked Wednesday afternoon at West Chester, 2-0, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action. The Lakers record falls to 7-8 overall and 4-4 PSAC, while the Golden Rams improve to 13-3, 5-3 PSAC.

The Golden Rams' Rachal Toppi (18) and Dayle Paustian (10) each scored goals in the first half, to give West Chester a, 2-0, halftime lead. Toppi, the PSAC's second leading goal scorer, recorded her 18th of the season off an assist from Paustian. Paustian, however, would need no assist when she netted her 10th goal of the year in the 23rd minute.

West Chester finished the game outshooting the Lakers, 18-9, and also held the corner kicks advantage, 13-7.

Laker goalkeeper Sam Takac recorded 11 saves on 13 shots on goal; however, her record falls to 7-8 in net.

Mercyhurst will travel back home to take on Bloomsburg Saturday at Tullio Field. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
