EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro University women's volleyball team won three close games and went on to defeat Mercyhurst, 3-1, Saturday night at McComb Fieldhouse. The scores were 25-22, 25-22, 14-25, and 25-23. The Fighting Scots improved to 19-2 overall and to 8-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West while the Lakers fell to 10-10 and 5-4 respectively.
Mercyhurst, which hit .164 for the match, had three players with twelve or more points. Junior outside hitter
Sarah Wegrzyn totaled 12.5 points including a team-high dozen kills. Senior outside hitter
Erin Byrnes and junior middle blocker
Haley Adams were right behind with a dozen points apiece. Byrnes accumulated eleven kills while Adams had six along with six blocks (three solo, six assisted).

Kelly Vitt (16) combined for 38 of the Lakers' 62 digs. Vitt also had a team-high 25 assists.
Edinboro hit .224 as a team. Victoria Severo had a match-high 14 kills while teammate Sydney Trathen had a match-high 42 assists.
The Lakers had a slight 5-4 margin in service aces and a 10-4 advantage in total team blocks.
Mercyhurst will head east next weekend to play both East Stroudsburg and West Chester on Friday, October 16, at East Stroudsburg. The Lakers will then conclude the weekend road excursion with Saturday matches against Kutztown and Cheyney at Kutztown.
