ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's basketball team will host California (Pa.) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division matchup. The Lakers will face off against the Vulcans Wednesday, January 28 at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center (MAC). Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Mercyhurst is coming off a bye on Saturday, January 24. Their last outing was Wednesday, January 21, against PSAC Western Division Seton Hill. The Lakers went on to defeat the Griffins, 70-50, for their 14th victory of the season. Damon Jones leads Mercyhurst in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game. Gerrae Williams is the only other player to average double digit scoring (10.4). The Lakers are third in the PSAC in scoring defense, holding opponents to just 63.2 points per game.

The Vulcans are coming off a tough loss at home to Slippery Rock, 64-62, after defeating Western Division leading Gannon on the road, 63-58, in overtime on Thursday. California sits in fifth in the PSAC West, trailing Slippery Rock in the standings. Guard Khalil Jabbie and Forward Richard Smith lead the Vulcans in scoring, averaging 12.3 and 12.2 points, respectively. Smith is also one of the PSAC's best rebounders, averaging 8.2 rebounds, which is third in the conference.

Last season, Mercyhurst defeated California (Pa.) three times, twice in the regular season and once in the first round of the PSAC Tournament. The Lakers have already beat the Vulcans earlier this season on November 19, 60-55, at the Convocation Center.
