ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's basketball team looks to rebound from their loss December 20 at Millersville with two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division road games at Shippensburg and Kutztown. The Lakers will face off against the Raiders Saturday, January 3 and then, travel to Kutztown Sunday, January 4. Both games are set to tipoff at 3:00 p.m.
Mercyhurst is coming off a conference loss to PSAC East Division opponent Millersville, 87-81. The Lakers shot 47.5% (28-59) from the field and forced the Marauder's into 20 turnovers. They were able to generate 18 points of the Millersville turnovers.
Damon Jones led the Lakers, scoring 19 points on six of nine shooting from the floor.
Kayode Ajenifuja had a career-game, scoring 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action. Mercyhurst currently ranks fifth in the PSAC in scoring defense, allowing 66.3 points per game.
Shippensburg comes in to Saturday's game sixth in the PSAC Eastern Division with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-4 conference mark. The Raiders haven't played since Saturday, December 20, at home against Edinboro in a 57-53 win. They are currently one and two in PSAC Crossover games this season. Shippensburg is fourth in the PSAC in scoring defense, allowing 66.0 points per game. Dylan Edgar leads the Raiders in both points and rebounds, averaging 15.9 and 10.8.
The Golden Bears of Kutztown are second in the PSAC East, riding an 8-4, 5-2 PSAC record in to Saturday's game at home against Edinboro. The Fighting Scots will battle Kutztown before the Lakers travel to play the Golden Bears Sunday afternoon. Tynell Fortune leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game. Josh Johnson is the leading rebounder, grabbing 6.7 a game.
