ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's basketball team will host Pitt-Johnstown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division matchup. The Lakers will face off against the Mountain Cats Saturday, January 17 at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center (MAC). Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
Mercyhurst is coming off a road win at Clarion Wednesday, January 14, 69-63. Junior guard
Damon Jones led the Lakers in scoring, tallying 13 points, while
Gerrae Williams,
Callon Dailey, and
Andy Hoying all added 10.
James Ewing grabbed a game-high seven rebounds, as the Lakers went on to outrebound the Golden Eagles, 36-28. Mercyhurst remains one of the PSAC's best in scoring defense (3rd), allowing 64.2 points per game.
The Mountain Cats are coming off a home win against Western Division leading Gannon, 65-57. A.J. Leahey scored a game-high 27 points, to lead Pitt-Johnstown to the victory, and forward Ian Vescovi grabbed 10 rebounds. Matt Palo leads the Mountain Cats in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game, while Vescovi leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.6. Pitt-Johnstown sits in 6th in the PSAC Western Division with a 6-5 conference record, 9-6 overall.
Last season, Mercyhurst and Pitt-Johnstown split a pair of meetings with the Lakers defeating the Mountain Cats on the road January 25, 80-78.
