Field Hockey Pushes Adelphi to Overtime in 3-2 Loss Sunday

GARDEN CITY, NY- The Mercyhurst field hockey team took Adelphi to overtime Sunday afternoon, but the Panthers came away with a 3-2 win. Marissa Faso and Tracey Mason each scored for the Lakers.
 
Adelphi took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, but Mercyhurst had an answer. Mason dribbled in on the right side and scored from eight yards out, tying the game at the 28:56 mark. The Lakers continued their momentum a few minutes later, as Mason assisted on a Faso goal with one minute left in the first half.
 
The hosts evened the score at the 56:02 mark and the contest moved into overtime. Jess Wess made a stop early in the extra frame, but the Panthers found the back of the net at the 75:30 mark.
 
Mason finished with a goal and an assist. Faso scored her second goal of the season. Wess posted 10 saves in net.

The game was the Lakers' first OT venture since the 2011 season, when Mercyhurst played seven overtime matches.
 
The Lakers head to IUP on Tuesday, September 9, for a 7 p.m. match.
