Field Hockey Rides Hot Start to 6-3 Win at Newberry Saturday

NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team won, 6-3, at Newberry Saturday. Marissa Faso and Cayla Slade each scored twice to lead the Lakers to a non-conference victory.
 
Faso got Mercyhurst off to a good start, as she scored before the match was five minutes old. She followed with another goal at the 7:44 mark, giving the Lakers a 2-0 advantage. Less than a minute later, Blair Pembleton set up Slade for a goal.
 
After a Newberry score, Pembleton assisted on Slade's second goal of the day at the 25:24 mark. Mercyhurst entered halftime ahead, 4-1.
 
Pembleton made it 5-1 early in the second half, scoring her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The hosts followed with a pair of goals, but Andrea Goldbach closed the door on a comeback attempt with a score at the 61:13 mark. Faso recorded the assist.
 
Faso and Slade scored two goals apiece, while Pembleton put up a goal and two assists. Jess Wess got the win in net, making two saves in the first half. Sam Takac posted four saves in the second period.
 
Mercyhurst improved to 4-3 this year. It plays at #6 Limestone tomorrow. The contest is set for a noon start.
