Field Hockey Challenges #4 West Chester in Defeat Saturday

Mercyhurst challenged West Chester before falling, 5-3.

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team took a second-half lead, but eventually fell at #4 West Chester Saturday afternoon. Blair Pembleton scored two goals in the tight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match.
 
After falling behind 2-0 early, the Lakers rallied. Pembleton scored at the 8:58 mark to cut into the deficit. She followed with a tying goal at the 15:33 mark. The match headed into halftime even at two.
 
The Lakers earned three early penalty corners in the second half. On the third, Andrea Goldbach inserted to Emily Burns, who scored to give Mercyhurst a 3-2 edge in the 42nd minute. West Chester evened the score shortly thereafter and then added two goals to take the lead.
 
Pembleton finished two goals and four shots on goal. Jess Wess recorded 13 saves in net.
 
The Lakers (2-2) host Slippery Rock in a PSAC contest on Wednesday, September 17. The game is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Tullio Field.
