Men's Hoops Wraps Up Three-Game Roadtrip at Clarion Sunday

Jean Onana leads the Lakers in scoring this season.
ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team plays at Clarion in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game on Sunday, February 23. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at Tippin Gymnasium.

Live stats will be available at http://www.sidearmstats.com/clarion/mbball/. A live audio broadcast will be available at http://www.redzonemedia.com/viewschedule.asp?sportID=2&SchoolID=62.

The Lakers are 14-10 overall and 10-4 in the Western Division. They were tenth in the first NCAA Regional Rankings, released Wednesday. However, those rankings do not take into account Mercyhurst's 74-66 loss at Indiana (Pa.). Following that outcome, the Lakers are alone in third place in the West. With a win against either Clarion or Pitt-Johnstown, or a loss by Slippery Rock in its last two regular season outings, Mercyhurst will clinch the third seed in the PSAC Tournament.

The Lakers can still move up to second place with two wins and two IUP losses. The top two seeds in each division earn byes in the PSAC Tournament. Gannon has already secured one of the byes in the Western Division.

Clarion has a 5-17 record, including a 3-11 PSAC mark. It fell, 71-54, at Gannon Wednesday. DeMarius Miller led with 16 points in the loss. The Golden Eagles remain alive for a PSAC Tournament berth, but need wins in each of their last two regular season contests, as well as losses by Cal and Pitt-Johnstown in each of their remaining two outings.

On January 22, the Lakers beat Clarion, 61-54, at the MAC. Jonathan Ouegnin scored 13 points, while Anthony Lytle added 12. The Eagles took a 44-43 lead with 6:44 remaining, but the Lakers closed the game on an 18-10 run.

This week's game is being played on Sunday due to a scheduling conflict at Tippin Gymnasium on Saturday.
