Volleyball Travels to Seton Hill, California to Close Regular Season This Weekend

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team heads to Seton Hill and California (Pa.) to close out the 2014 regular season this weekend. On Friday, November 7, the Lakers play at Seton Hill at 7 p.m. Mercyhurst then plays at Cal the next day at 3 p.m.
 
Mercyhurst is 18-10 overall and 13-7 in the PSAC. It has four of its last five outings, including two home wins last weekend. The Lakers rallied past Clarion for a five-game win October 31 and then swept Indiana (Pa.) the following day.
 
Seton Hill has a 27-4 record, including a 16-4 league mark. The Griffins enter the weekend having taken six of their last seven contests, including a pair of road wins over the weekend. Seton Hill won at Slippery Rock in four games and then took a four-game decision at Edinboro the next day.
 
Cal sports a 23-8 overall record and a 15-5 mark in conference play. It enters the weekend with a 3-1 record in its last four outings. The Vulcans won four-set matches at Edinboro and Slippery Rock last weekend.
 
Sarah Wegrzyn has been the Lakers' leading scorer this season with 305 points. Lexi Stefanov is second with 286.5 points and Lauren Kenny has put up 270.5 this season. Kelly Vitt has compiled 1054 assists, while Samantha Giardina has 456 digs.
 
Corrine Gahagen paces the Griffins with 445.5 points. Shelby Kyllo is next with 424.5 on the year. Courtney Field has dished out 956 assists and Lauren Teed has a team-high 492 digs.
 
Laurel Miller leads Cal with 436.5 points. Danielle Hayes has 313 points, while Megan Litoborski and Taylor Solo have teamed up for 925 helpers. Samantha Rudy has 416 digs for the Vulcans.
 
In the PSAC Tournament race, Clarion, Gannon, and Seton Hill have each clinched a spot. Mercyhurst can secure a bid with two wins this weekend and a Cal loss to Gannon Friday.
 
Wheeling Jesuit is at the top of the NCAA Atlantic Regional Rankings this week. Clarion and Gannon follow, with Seton Hill and California next. Mercyhurst is sixth. Edinboro, Pitt-Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Fairmont State round out the rankings. The top eight teams at the conclusion of next weekend's conference tournaments will qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
