ERIE, Pa. - Behind a double-double from
James Ewing, the Lakers posted their first home win of the season over Daemen College, 90-84, in overtime. Ewing recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds to propel Mercyhurst to the victory.
Jean Onana provided a team high 17 points off the bench to lead the Lakers in scoring the past two games.
Mercyhurst shot 45.5 percent from the field and had four players score in double figures Tuesday night. The Lakers forced Daemen into 16 turnovers, generated by nine steals. Mercyhurst's dominating first half led Mercyhurst to an 18 point half time lead, 40-22. The Wildcats came all the way back and forced overtime, but the Lakers scored the first ten points in the overtime frame to pull away.
The Blue Knights of Urbana are coming into Saturday's contest losing to California (Pa.), 86-80, a team they beat earlier in the season, 86-85. John Summers provided the biggest lift for the Blue Knights this time around, scoring a season-high 18 points and pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. Rodney Clark Jr. added 14 points off the bench.
Mercyhurst and Urbana have met nine times, as the Lakers lead the all-time series, 7-2. Urbana won the last time these two schools met at Urbana, 63-71, two seasons ago. The Lakers will look to win their second non-conference win Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
