ERIE, Pa.- The #7/7 Mercyhurst women's hockey team travels to the University of Maine for two games this weekend. The teams square off on Friday, October 10, at 7 p.m. and then play again on Saturday, October 11, at 1 p.m. Both contests will be held at the Harold Alfond Sports Arena.
Mercyhurst swept Providence in a two-game series last weekend. In the season-opener on October 3,
Jenna Dingeldein scored midway through the third period to break a scoreless tie.
Brooke Hartwick and
Emily Janiga each added late goals and
Amanda Makela made 15 saves in the 3-0 win.
The next day, Makela tallied 22 saves in a 2-0 victory.
Paige Horton scored a power-play goal 29 seconds into the second period and then
J'nai Mahadeo poked in a goal with 0.6 seconds remaining in the second.
Janiga earned College Hockey America Player of the Week honors after putting up a goal and three assists. Makela was chosen CHA Goaltender of the Week for her pair of shutouts.
Maine is 2-1 this season. It beat New Hampshire, 2-1, on September 27, and then split two games with Robert Morris last weekend. In the Black Bears' 3-2 win on October 3, Victoria Hummel scored the game-winning goal in overtime.
Mercyhurst leads the all-time series, 9-1, including two victories over Maine last season.
