MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team was able to get another road win at Millersville 1-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup.
The Lakers outplayed the Marauders in the first half but were not able to generate a goal until the 43rd minute of play; sophomore Danny Deakin scored off a penalty shot. It was Deakin's fifth goal of the season, and the teams' first penalty shot opportunity of the year.
Mercyhurst would record 11 shots to Millersville's one; six of the Laker 11 shots were on goal. The Marauders were unable to get a shot off at goal keeper Ryan Arvin.
Mercyhurst would also receive two yellow cards in the period. One coming from Dane Rimko in the 13th minute and the other from Uday Arora at the 40:27 mark.
Going into halftime, Mercyhurst would have the lead, 1-0.
The Lakers would continue to dominate the stat sheet in the second half.
The Marauders would record six shots on the stellar Laker defense that has let up only two goals in the last three games.
Mercyhurst out-shot Millersville in the contest, 14-7 and held the corner kick advantage, 6-5.
Arvin would record three saves and picked up a yellow card in the 73rd minute; he improves his record to 4-0-0.
Even though the Lakers would not score another goal in the game, the defense was able to record its third shutout in four games beating Millersville, 1-0.
With the win, Mercyhurst's record improves to 9-2-0 and 3-1-0 in PSAC play. Millersville falls to 2-8-1 (1-3-0 PSAC).
The Lakers will be back in action next Saturday, October 11, at home against Bloomsburg for another PSAC match. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
