Women’s Soccer Gets Shut Out by Shippensburg, 2-0

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team lost a tough battle at Shippensburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match.

Early in the first half, the Lakers and Raiders were playing a back and forth style game as both teams recorded two shots and each had a corner opportunity mid-way through.

The Raiders would, however, go on to outshoot Mercyhurst 4-1 the rest of the period. All four shots recorded by Shippensburg came in the last minute of the half; goalie Ellie McDougall recorded two saves during the span while the other two shots were blocked by Laker defenders.

McDougall, a Granby, Connecticut native, was tested early in the second half. The Raiders scored on their first two shots of the period, one coming in the 51st and the other in the 58th minute.

Shippensburg's Shannon Morgan scored the first goal off a Bailey Bzdak lofted touch pass that landed in the box for Morgan to put in the back of the net to lead, 1-0.

Seven minutes later, Casey Rightmyer put a strike on net from 20 yards out that was out of McDougall's reach for a 2-0 Raider advantage.

Mercyhurst was not able to answer Shippensburg's early second half surge and went on to defeat the Lakers, 2-0.

Mercyhurst was out-shot 12-10 and had three less shots on goal as the Raiders, 7-4. McDougall receives the loss in goal which brings her record to 3-3-1.

With the loss, the Lakers record falls to 3-5-1 (2-5-1 PSAC) AND Shippensburg improves to 2-3-3 (2-3-3 PSAC).

Mercyhurst will look to avenge their loss tomorrow as they head to Millersville for another PSAC matchup. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
