MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team loses a tough Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match at Millersville, 1-0.
Mercyhurst came out firing early in the first half putting two shots on goal and creating a corner kick opportunity within the first five minutes of play.
The Lakers were unable to capitalize on the opportunities and ended up getting out-shot 12-8 with the Marauders also holding the corner kick advantage 6-2.
In the second, it was Millersville who started off the period firing shots. Goal keeper
Ellie McDougall was tested when a shot from Millersville's Hannah Willett, in the 47
th minute, hit off the post. The Lakers were able to get the ball out of their defense third with the score remained tied at zero.
The first, and only, goal of the game would come off the foot of Alexandra Powell at the 59:53 mark of the second period. It was her first goal of the season and put the Marauders ahead, 1-0.
Mercyhurst would only record one shot after the Millersville goal in the 76
th minute from
Nikki Charboneau that was saved by keeper Olivia Webber.
The Lakers were not able to generate a goal for the second straight afternoon as they would fall to Millesville, 1-0.
The Marauders out-shot the Lakers 11-2 in the second half and 23-10 for the game. They also held the advantage in corner kicks 9-2 throughout the contest.
McDougall recorded ten saves but received the loss as her record falls to 3-3-1in net.
Mercyhurst's record after the loss is 3-6-1 overall and 2-6-1 PSAC; Millersville improves to 5-4-0 (5-4-0 PSAC).
The Lakers will be back on the road Wednesday, October 8, against California (Pa.) for another PSAC matchup. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
