ERIE, Pa.- The #9/9 Mercyhurst women's hockey team beat Providence College, 3-0, Friday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers scored three goals in the third period to pull away from the Friars in the 2014-15 opener. 
Despite outshooting PC, 21-14, in the first two periods, the game was scoreless entering the third. 
Jenna Dingeldein wrapped around behind the net and scored on the right side at the 8:56 mark, putting the Lakers ahead, 1-0, and giving the MIC faithful good reason to cheer.

Sarah Robello set up the goal. 
After several good chances, 
Brooke Hartwick found the back of the net at the 11:50 mark. Robello and Janiga assisted on the freshman's goal. 
Janiga scored on an empty net in the final two minutes to create the final margin. Dingeldein and 
Lauren Kilroy had the assists. 
Amanda Makela posted her tenth career shutout, making 15 saves in goal. The senior came up with a key save in the second period, denying a Friar attempt by reaching back and snagging the puck with her glove. 
The Lakers held a 30-15 advantage in shots, including a 9-1 margin in the third frame. The teams combined for eight penalties, with six coming in the second period, which featured a number of special teams chances. 
The Lakers host the Friars again tomorrow. Faceoff is set for 5 p.m. at the MIC.
