INDIANA, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team won in straight games at Indiana (Pa.) Friday night. The Lakers won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match by scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-22.

The opening set went back and forth, with the Lakers gaining breathing room on a 3-0 spurt midway through action.
Kelly Vitt found
Sarah Wegrzyn and
Rachel Crittle for kills and then Crittle scored on the next point, making 19-13 Mercyhurst. A block by
Lexi Stefanov and
Lauren Kenny gave the visitors a 23-18 advantage and then Vitt assisted on points by
Camille Alvarez and Crittle to take the first frame.

In the second game, the score was even at 17 before the Lakers took charge. Alvarez scored and then Crittle served an ace. After an IUP point, Stefanov posted a pair of kills for a 21-18 edge. Two Stefanov points pushed the Crimson Hawks to the brink and then Vitt hit Wegrzyn to take the frame, 25-23.

The teams played another tight game in the third, with the Lakers going ahead, 23-18 on two Kenny kills. Vitt assisted on a Wegrzyn point and then after two Indiana points, Wegrzyn finished the match with a kill.

Wegrzyn led with 14 points on 13 kills and an ace. Kenny recorded 11 points and Stefanov added 10.5 on the night. Vitt totaled 43 assists, while
Samantha Giardina put up 17 digs.

Mercyhurst (11-4, 6-2 PSAC) plays at Clarion in another PSAC contest tomorrow. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
