ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team travels to rival Gannon on Tuesday, October 28, for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division match. The Diocese Trophy will be on the line in the 7 p.m. contest at the Hammermill Center.

Mercyhurst has a 16-9 record, including an 11-6 mark in the PSAC. It won at Slippery Rock, 3-0, and at Edinboro, 3-1, over the weekend.
Sarah Wegrzyn led a balanced attack with 13.5 points in the sweep at The Rock. Against Edinboro,
Kelly Vitt dished out 53 assists and
Rachel Crittle scored a season-high 20 points.

Gannon is 22-2 overall and 15-2 in the league. It also defeated Edinboro and Slippery Rock on the road over the weekend. In a five-game victory at Edinboro, Megan Wendel posted 45 assists, while Hannah Kren put up 16.5 points and 28 digs. The following day, Kren totaled 19 points in a sweep of SRU.

Entering this week's matches, Clarion leads the Western Division with a 16-1 record. Gannon is a game behind, with California (Pa.) and Seton Hill both 13-4. Mercyhurst is fifth at 11-6, while Edinboro is 10-7 and Slippery Rock is 9-8. The top four teams in the division at the end of the regular season will advance to the PSAC Tournament.

Wegrzyn paces the Lakers with 283.5 points this season, including a team-high 256 kills.
Lexi Stefanov is second with 252 points. Her 88 total blocks pace the team. Vitt has registered 941 assists, while
Samantha Giardina has 402 digs.

Kren has been GU's top scorer with 313 points. Wendel has posted 911 assists. Taryn Graham has tallied a team-high 419 digs.

Mercyhurst rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Gannon at the MAC September 30. Vitt put up a career-high 65 assists, as four Lakers scored in double figures, led by Stefanov with 24. The win was Mercyhurst's first when trailing a match 2-0 since 2008.
The Lakers won the 2013 Diocese Trophy, which is awarded to the winner of the second Mercyhurst-Gannon match each season.Â
