Women's Soccer Loses Close Battle to #24 Kutztown, 1-0, in Overtime; Koch Recorded 15 Saves

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team lost a tough battle at home against Kutztown, 1-0, in overtime.

Despite being outshot 29-6, Mercyhurst's defense was outstanding. They had the Golden Bears frustrated throughout the contest and controlled their leading goal scorer Sam Costello with every touch.

The Lakers would also create some promising opportunities in the second half where they generated five shots and controlled possession most of the period. However, Kutztown goalkeeper Deanna Messner saved the lone Laker shot on net.

The Lakers fought hard for 92 minutes, but would ultimately come up short when Kutztown's Logan Kramer scored two minutes into the first overtime off a pass from teammate Sam Busillo. Busillo's pass from the left side found Kramer seven yards in front of the net where she was able to beat Mercyhurst goalkeeper Kristen Koch right side for the, 1-0, victory.

Kutztown would also hold the corner kick advantage, 14-4.

Anchoring the Mercyhurst defense was Koch. Koch, making her second straight start, had a fantastic performance, recording 15 saves. Yet, her record falls to 0-4-0 while in net.

The loss is now the seventh by only one goal this season and takes Mercyhurst's record to 4-11-1 overall (3-10-1 PSAC). The Golden Bears improve to 12-3-0 and 11-3-0 in PSAC play.

Mercyhurst will be back in action Tuesday, October 28, for senior day against Clarion. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
