ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team won, 3-0, at Slippery Rock Friday night. The Lakers won by scores of 25-14, 25-21, and 25-17 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division match.

Mercyhurst started the night on fire, hitting .400 while compiling 18 kills in the opening game.
Camille Alvarez recorded five kills in the set.

The Lakers slowly pulled away in the second game. The set was even at eight before Mercyhurst began to distance itself. Kenny and Stefanov teamed up for a block, while Vitt hit
Rachel Crittle for a pair of kills. Another Kenny-Stefanov block made it 18-14 and then
Sarah Wegrzyn and Kenny each scored for a 21-16 advantage. Two Wegrzyn kills set up Alvarez's game-ending point from Vitt.

In the third, the score was tied at nine before a quick 4-0 Laker spurt. Vitt assisted on kills by Stefanov and Wegrzyn and after a Rock error, Crittle blocked an SRU attempt. A pair of Kenny points pushed Mercyhurst closer to victory and then
Sarah Puckett served two aces to win the match.

Wegrzyn led with 13.5 points. Crittle scored 11 and Stefanov added 10 on the night. Vitt tallied 37 assists and 10 digs.
Samantha Giardina and
Tai Lattimore each put up 10 digs as well.

Mercyhurst moved to 15-9 overall and 10-6 in the PSAC. The Rock dropped to 16-9 overall and 9-7 in the league. The Lakers play at Edinboro tomorrow at 1 p.m.
