GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at Seton Hill Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup.
Coming off a 4-0 win over the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Tuesday, October 14, the 4-8-1 overall (3-8-1 PSAC) Lakers were looking for their first pair of back-to-back wins this season. The Griffins, who are currently tenth in the conference, were standing in their way as they have lost three straight.
In the first half, Seton Hill would strike first at the 20:54 mark on an unassisted goal by Breanna Novosel for the early 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Linnea Laitinen would provide the equalizer right before the half to tie the game at 1-1. Laitinen was assisted by senior Janine Wong in the 40th minute for her second goal of the season and Wong's third assist.
However, that would be the only goal the Lakers would produce as the Griffins added two more goals in the second half.
Seton Hill's Andrea Wisniewski scored off an assist from her teammate Bri Kostan at the 53:51 mark for the 2-1 advantage.
In the 66th minute, Allison Mello would put the game away as she beat junior goalkeeper Ellie McDougall on a penalty kick to go up, 3-1.
The Griffins outshot the Lakers 8-6 in the contest while Mercyhurst had the advantage in corner kicks, 6-5.
McDougall recorded three saves on eight shots as her record falls to 4-7-1 in net.
The Lakers are now 4-9-1 overall (3-9-1PSAC) and 13th in the PSAC standings with three conference games remaining on their schedule.
Mercyhurst will be back in action Tuesday, October 21, at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
