Penalty Shots Down Women's Soccer at Lake Erie College, 2-1

Junior Lauren Testa recorded her team leading ninth goal of the season in a, 2-1, loss at Lake Erie College.

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team traveled to Lake Erie College for a non-conference matchup where the Lakers lost a close battle, 2-1.

Coming of a tough loss at Seton Hill Saturday afternoon, 3-1, the Lakers wanted to come out and pick up their third road win of the season.

Things looked good at the end of the first half as Mercyhurst would score with 29 seconds remaining to take the lead into the locker room, 1-0. Junior Kristina Roberti would assist Lauren Testa for her team leading ninth goal of the season. It was Roberti's second recorded assist.

However, the win wouldn't come easy as the Storm provided the equalizer in the 51st minute on a Elizabeth Ewuah penalty shot to tie the game, 1-1.

The game wouldn't be decided until five minutes remaining in the contest when Mercyhurst was called for another foul in the box that set up  Ewuah's second penalty shot opportunity. Ewuah was able to beat goalkeeper Kristen Koch to take the late lead, 2-1.

With little time remaining, the Lakers were unable to produce a goal to force overtime.

Despite outshooting the Storm, 14-12, overall and 10-3, in the first half, Lake Erie went on to outshoot the Lakers by six in the second, 9-4. Lake Erie held the advantage in corner kicks by one, 4-3.

Koch got her second start in goal for the Lakers this season. She recorded three saves on 12 shots. Her record falls to 0-3-0 in goal with the loss.
Junior Allie Cornacchia picked up a yellow card in the 58
th
minute which was the only caution in the game.

The loss is now Mercyhurst's sixth loss by a single goal and takes their record to 4-10-1 overall and remain 3-9-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. The storm improved to 6-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the GLIAC.

The women have three PSAC games left remaining on their schedule. They will host Kutztown Saturday, October 25. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
