Field Hockey Falls in OT to Seventh-Ranked East Stroudsburg, 2-1, Saturday

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team lost, 2-1 in overtime, to #7 East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon. Blair Pembleton scored for the Lakers in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match at Tullio Field.

Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, the Lakers found the tying goal. Marissa Faso inserted a penalty corner to Kelley Hynes on the left side, where she fired on cage. Pembleton was there to deflect the shot into the net with 1:33 remaining the half, tying the score at one and eventually forcing overtime. However, ESU came up with the game-winner less than five minutes into OT.

The Warriors scored the game's first goal in the 41st minute, as Ally Roth made it 1-0 after a scoreless first half.

Mercyhurst earned 11 corners to just five for the Warriors. Jess Wess totaled 12 saves, including six in the second half.

The Lakers have now played three OT games in four home outings in 2014. Mercyhurst dropped to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC. ESU moved to 7-5 overall and 7-5 overall and 6-3 in the league. The Lakers play at Seton Hill on Wednesday, October 22, in another PSAC contest.
