Field Hockey Wins, 6-3, Seton Hill Wednesday; Faso Posts Hat Trick

GREENSBURG, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team won, 6-3, at Seton Hill Wednesday afternoon. Marissa Faso recorded a hat trick in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win.

After an early Griffin goal, the Lakers answered late in the first half. Blair Pembleton threw a ball into the crease, where Cayla Slade tipped it to Faso, who finished into the open cage with six minutes remaining in the period.

Faso inserted a penalty corner after time expired in the half, finding Emily Burns. Burns fired toward the net, where the Griffin goalkeeper stopped the shot, but the rebound came free to Faso, who gave Mercyhurst the lead with the goal to close the half.

To begin the second half, the Lakers put together a string of outstanding play to break the game open. Pembleton dribbled through the SHU defense and scored 1:26 into the period. The hosts responded just over two minutes later to make it 3-2. Pembleton came back with another score, beating several Griffin defenders on her way to her team-high 12th goal of the year.

At the 43:24 mark, Pembleton found Slade for a goal and a 5-2 advantage. Seventy seconds after that, Kelley Hynes hit Faso for her third goal of the day. Faso is the first Laker with a hat trick since Pembleton pulled off the feat on October 23, 2013, against Mansfield.

Mercyhurst outshot Seton Hill, 19-8, and earned 16 corners to six for the Griffins. All 24 Lakers appeared in the game. The six goals are the most by a Laker team in a PSAC contest since a 7-2 win over Mansfield on October 5, 2011. It is the most goals ever by Mercyhurst in a road PSAC game.

Mercyhurst improved to 6-7 overall and 4-5 in the league. Seton Hill dropped to 0-11 overall and 0-9 in the PSAC. The Lakers host Shippensburg on Saturday, October 25, at 1 p.m. in another PSAC match.
