Field Hockey Handles IUP in 3-1 Win Tuesday; Teams Participate in Play4theCure

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team beat Indiana (Pa.), 3-1, Tuesday afternoon at Tullio Field. Marissa Faso, Kelsey Lovelace, and Emily Burns scored for the Lakers in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match.

Mercyhurst came out on fire in the first half, controlling the action and taking the lead. Emily Burns fired a shot that was stopped by the IUP goalie, but the rebound came free to Marissa Faso, who banged in the ball at the 3:57 mark for a 1-0 Laker advantage.

Later in the half, Jessica Hillman made a move on the right side, beating her defender as she neared the crease. Hillman then passed across to a charging Lovelace, who drilled a shot into the upper right corner of the cage, putting Mercyhurst ahead, 2-0, at the 25:55 mark.

Just over two minutes, the Lakers scored again to bump up their margin. Faso inserted a penalty corner to Tracey Mason, who found Burns on the right side, where she loaded up and blasted a shot off the IUP goalie and into the net. Mercyhurst was able to hold on to its lead throughout the second half.

The Lakers held a 12-8 advantage in shots. Jess Wess made four saves in net.
