ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team pushed #1 Millersville to the limit Saturday, but the Marauders came away with a 2-1 win in double overtime.
Blair Pembleton scored the Lakers' goal in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match at Tullio Field.

The contest swayed in the balance for much of the day. Each side had multiple chances to score throughout, but the goalies starred to keep the scoring to a minimum. As the game reached overtime, the Lakers controlled the action, recording several opportunities. Lauren Sotzkin and the Marauder defense turned away each try, however. In the second OT, Rachel Dickinson scored in the 89
th minute to end the match.

Jess Wess made an early save in the first half and then
Marissa Faso made a run down the right side of the field. She entered the offensive zone and found Pembleton, who beat Sotzkin to the right from five yards out, putting the Lakers ahead, 1-0. The goal was only the fourth allowed by Millersville in nine outings this year. Each team had chances later in the frame, but the score remained even at one after 35 minutes.

At the 50:43 mark, Millersville scored to tie the game. Each team had several penalty corner tries as the half moved on, but the match headed to overtime.

Mercyhurst held a 15-14 edge in shots. Wess posted seven saves in goal.

The Lakers dropped to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the PSAC. Millersvilled moved to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the league. Mercyhurst hosts Indiana (Pa.) on Tuesday, October 14, in a Play4theCure game at Tullio Field.
