Mizias Lead #12 Wrestling to 24-12 Win over #16 Lake Erie

Francis Mizia beat the second-ranked wrestler in the 157-pound class Saturday night.
ERIE, Pa.- The 12th-ranked Mercyhurst wrestling team defeated #16 Lake Erie College, 24-12, Saturday night at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. August Mizia won by pinfall and Francis Mizia beat the second-ranked 157-pounder in a 3-1 decision.
 
The Lakers improved to 9-1 in dual action, including a 3-0 mark at the MAC.
 
August Mizia started the night with what would turn out to be the lone pin of the match. He pinned Dylan Zivcic at the 1:26 mark of their 174-pound bout. It marked Mizia's fifth pinfall of the season, tying him for second on the team.
 
In the 157-pound contest, Francis Mizia picked up the biggest win of the night, grinding out a 3-1 decision over Zak Vargo. Vargo entered the match as the second-ranked wrestler in his weight class after placing second at nationals last season.
 
In the 184-pound match, LEC's Chevy Farris came away with an 11-5 decision over Dakota DesLauriers, cutting the Storm's deficit in half at 6-3.
 
Evan Rosborough followed with another victory, beating Brian Beattie, 8-4, in the 197-pound match, tying things up at 6-all.
 
In the heavyweight tussle, Andrew Welton took a 5-2 decision from Almonte Patrick, giving Mercyhurst a lead it would not relinquish.
 
Ryan Bohince continued the Lakers' momentum with a 6-2 win over Keanu Thompson in the 125-pound bout.
 
After Austin Gillihan took a 9-2 decision from Kody Young in the 133-pound match, Dylan D'Urso picked up a forfeit victory, putting the hosts ahead, 18-9.
 
Jeremy Landowski then won, 9-4, over Nate Ball in the 149-pound match, giving Mercyhurst a 21-9 advantage. Mizia followed his victory in the 157-pound contest.
 
Tyler Tesny closed the evening with a 7-2 win over Clint Schafer in the 165-pound bout, setting the final score at 24-12.
 
Mercyhurst competes at Kutztown on Friday, January 24, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match. It is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
