Faso, Pembleton Score as Field Hockey Falls to #4 Millersville

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst field hockey team lost, 4-2, to #4 Millersville in the season opener Sunday afternoon. Marissa Faso and Blair Pembleton each scored for the Lakers in the non-conference game at Tullio Field.

After the Marauders took a 1-0 edge, Mercyhurst cashed in on its first opportunity of the day. It earned a penalty corner and Faso inserted to Meghan Smith. Smith dribbled inside and shot, hitting the Millersville goalkeeper. Faso redirected the loose ball into the back of the net, tying the match at the 25:36 mark of half.

The visitors quickly regained control in the second frame, scoring at the 38:54 mark to go up 2-1. Megan Donlan added insurance with a goal at the 43:04 mark. However, the Lakers were not finished yet, as another penalty corner gave them hope. Smith made a move and put a shot on goal. Pembleton redirected the ball into the net, pulling the hosts within one in the 62nd minute. Millersville answered with a goal at the 66:55 mark to seal the decision.

Jess Wess made four saves in net. The Lakers drop to 0-1, while Millersville improved to 2-0 this season.

Mercyhurst hosts Limestone on Friday, September 13, in its next contest. The non-league match is slated for a 2 p.m. start at Tullio Field.
