#7 Field Hockey Prepares for Two Road Games This Weekend

Meghan Smith and the Lakers will open PSAC play Friday.
ERIE, Pa.- The #7 Mercyhurst field hockey team hits the road for two games this weekend. It plays at East Stroudsburg in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener on Friday, September 27, at 3 p.m. The Lakers then travel to Dowling for a non-conference match on Saturday, September 28, at 4 p.m.

Mercyhurst has a 3-3 record heading into PSAC action. It dropped a 5-1 decision to #1 Shippensburg Tuesday. The Lakers are ranked seventh in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) weekly poll, equaling their highest-ever spot in the rankings. Blair Pembleton leads with five goals, while Marissa Faso has scored four times.
 
ESU is 3-4 this season. It defeated Seton Hill, 5-1, Tuesday. Ally Roth paces the Warrior attack with nine goals and three assists. Jessica Lawville and Gabrielle Siebert each have four goals in 2013.
 
Dowling has an 0-4 mark this year. It fell, 4-1, to #6 Limestone last weekend. Sarah Shams-Kollar leds with three goals, while Arianna Ovadia has made 68 saves in net.
 
On September 15, the Lakers defeated ESU, 4-2, at Tullio Field. It was Mercyhurst's first-ever victory over the Warriors. Faso scored twice, while Pembleton made a steal and drilled the game-winner at the 49:11 mark.
 
This weekend will mark the first-ever meeting between Mercyhurst and Dowling.
