#9 Field Hockey Heads to #6 Kutztown on Saturday

Cayla Slade and the Lakers will head to #6 Kutztown Saturday.
ERIE, Pa.- The #9 Mercyhurst field hockey team travels to #6 Kutztown on Saturday, September 21. The non-conference match is slated for a 7 p.m. start at University Field.

The Lakers are 2-2 this year. They defeated Limestone and then-ninth-ranked East Stroudsburg at home last weekend before falling at Seton Hill Wednesday. Mercyhurst vaulted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Top 10 poll for the first time since 2010. It also posted its first-ever victory over East Stroudsburg and its first win over a ranked foe since 2009.
 
Blair Pembleton is the reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athlete of the Week after recording three goals in the two home wins last weekend. She leads the team with four goals in 2013.
 
Kutztown has a 3-1 mark this season. It beat Bellarmine, Mercy, and Slippery Rock to open the schedule. The Golden Bears then dropped a 4-0 decision at #1 Shippensburg on Wednesday.
 
Erin Reynolds paces the Bears' offense with four goals and two assists. Kayla Denlinger has a 1.75 goals against average and a .781 save percentage in four outings this year.
 
KU leads the all-time series, 7-4, but Mercyhurst took a 2-0 victory at home last September. Marissa Faso and Kelsey Lovelace each scored, while Jess Wess made five saves in goal.
