Volleyball Opens Home Schedule with 3 Matches This Weekend

The volleyball team will plays its first home matches of the season this weekend.
ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst volleyball team will host three matches this weekend as part of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)/Mountain East Conference (MEC) Crossover. The Lakers play West Virginia State at 4:30 p.m. Friday and then take on Notre Dame College at 10 a.m. Saturday. Mercyhurst closes action with a 3 p.m. contest with West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

The Mercyhurst Athletic Center will also host three neutral matches this weekend. West Virginia Wesleyan and Clarion will square off at 2 p.m. Friday. Clarion and West Virginia State play at 7 p.m. The following day, Notre Dame and Clarion face each other at 12:30 p.m.
 
Coach Ryan Patton's squad has a 3-4 record in 2013. It went 3-1 at the Falcon Fest to open the season before dropping three straight matches in Findlay, Ohio, last weekend. Rachel Crittle leads the team with 73 points (45 kills, 13 aces, 27 total blocks). Camille Alvarez is next with 54.5 points (46 kills, three aces, eight total blocks). Tai Lattimore has dished out a team-high 104 assists, while Kelly Vitt and Hannah Tombaugh have combined for 104 assists of their own. Nicole Texido has 117 digs to lead the Lakers.
 
West Virginia State is 3-3 this year. The Yellow Jackets won two out of three contests at the Glenville State College Invitational before going 1-2 in a PSAC/MEC Challenge last weekend.
 
Notre Dame has a 1-8 record in 2013. Lindsay Shirilla leads the Falcons with 65 points (58 kills, 10 total blocks). Setter Shelby Reglec has recorded 189 assists on the season. NDC's lone win came last weekend against Davis & Elkins.
 
West Virginia Wesleyan is 2-6 this season. It has lost four of its last five outings, including a four-game loss to Mercyhurst on September 7 at the Falcon Fest. Aspen Weber paces the Bobcats with 63.5 points (52 kills, 11 aces, one total block) in 2013.
