Women's Lacrosse Falls at Gannon Wednesday Afternoon

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team lost, 11-8, at Gannon Wednesday afternoon. Rebecca Himes recorded two goals and three assists in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) defeat at rain-soaked Gannon University Field.
 
After an early GU goal, the Lakers took control. Himes scored with 26:03 remaining in the first half to tie the match. She then found Kayla Minner for a goal. With 18:42 left, Himes scored from Alisha Catalino to take a 3-1 advantage. Gannon answered with a goal, but Mercyhurst stretched its lead as Anna LeGrett and Catalino each scored, making it 5-2 with 4:04 to play in the period. The Lady Knights finished the half with a 3-0 run, however, tying the game at the break.
 
The hosts scored first in the second frame as well, but Himes assisted on a Minner goal to even the score again. Gannon followed with four straight goals to take charge of the contest. The Lakers tried to muster a rally, as Kyla Keefe scored twice in less than three minutes to get Mercyhurst within 10-8. Natalie Bonnepart clinched the win with a goal at the 3:57 mark, giving the Knights a key win in the PSAC Tournament hunt.
 
Himes finished with two goals and three helpers. Minner had two goals and an assist, while Keefe scored twice. Catalino had a goal and an assist. Rebecca Muscella made 10 saves in net. Jess Fugate led the Knights with five goals and two helpers.
 
Mercyhurst fell to 12-4 overall and 7-3 in the PSAC. GU is 10-6 overall and 6-4 in the conference. With a win at Lock Haven Saturday, the Lakers can secure the fourth seed and a first-round home match Tuesday, April 30. They can also clinch a home game with a Gannon loss at IUP Saturday.
