Women's Lacrosse Heads to Rival Gannon for Key PSAC Match

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team travels to rival Gannon for a crucial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest on Wednesday, April 24. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at Gannon University Field.

Live stats will be available at http://www.gannon.edu/athletics/women/lacro/lstats/XLIVE.HTM.

Mercyhurst is 12-3 overall and 7-2 in the conference. It won twice last weekend, beating Shippensburg and Millersville by matching 11-7 scores. Kayla Minner scored four goals in the win over Millersville, while Rebecca Himes had two goals and two assists.

Gannon has a 9-6 overall mark, including a 5-4 PSAC record. It split two outings last weekend, defeating Millersville, 20-8, before falling to Ship, 13-8, the following day. Jess Fugate scored six goals and dished out three assists in the win over the Marauders.

The Lakers have clinched a PSAC Tournament bid for the fifth straight season. They can still finish anywhere between second and fifth in the standings. Mercyhurst plays at Gannon Wednesday and then closes the regular season at Lock Haven on Saturday, April 27. With a win in either of their two remaining games, the Lakers will clinch a top four seed, meaning either a first-round bye or a first-round home match on Tuesday, April 30. Gannon needs a win in games against Mercyhurst or IUP this week, or a loss by Shippensburg, to clinch a conference playoff spot.

Himes leads Mercyhurst with 68 points, including a team-high 31 assists. Minner has scored 43 goals, while Anna LeGrett has 24 goals and 30 assists. Alisha Catalino has posted 31 goals and 21 helpers.

Fugute paces the Lady Knights with 52 goals and 34 assists. Kimberly Neagle has 35 goals, while Caitlyn Fisher has 31 assists. The Knights have won the last three meetings with Mercyhurst, including one-goal decisions each of the last two seasons.
