Box Score

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team beat Lock Haven, 57-40, on Wednesday night. Jonathan Ouegnin nearly posted a triple-double as the Lakers won a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division contest at Thomas Fieldhouse.

Mercyhurst led early, but the Bald Eagles stayed with it and eventually tied the game at 32 with 13:39 left in the game. Jean Onana, playing his second consecutive stellar game, hit a three-pointer for a 37-34 edge. Kasheef Festus' layup made it 37-36 with 8:50 to go. From there, the Lakers went on a 20-4 run to end the game.

Onana sank a jumper and Andy Hoying banged a trey for a six-point advantage. Layups by Hoying and Luis Leao stretched the lead further. Wali Hepburn scored on the other end to make it 46-40 with 5:11 to play. Two Leao free throws were followed by an Onana triple with 4:20 remaining and the Lakers pulled away as their defense clamped down, not allowing a point in the final 5:11 of the night.

Paul Bilbo started the scoring with a layup from Ouegnin 1:01 into the game. Ouegnin then found Callon Dailey for a jump shot. With 16:19 left, Ouegnin hit Leao for a lay-in and a 6-0 lead. The Paris, France, native followed with a steal and a breakaway dunk to make it 8-0 after five minutes. After Hepburn got the Eagles on the board, Ouegnin recorded another steal and jam for a 10-2 margin.

The junior continued his monster half with a rebound and a steal. He then found Onana for a trey and a 16-9 lead. For the third time, Ouegnin made a steal and then dunked on the other end with 7:34 left in the period. After a timeout, he passed to Terrence Ingram, who drained a three to make it 21-9 with 4:42 showing on the clock. LHU ended the half on an 11-4 spurt to get back into the action. Mercyhurst still led, 25-20, at the break.

The Eagles cut their deficit to 26-24 on a Festus hoop, but Onana hit a jumper, assisted by Ouegnin with 16:22 left. Ouegnin's layup expanded the lead and then he found Leao for a basket inside for a 32-24 advantage. Lock Haven scored eight quick points to even the score, however.

Ouegnin finished with 11 points, 10 boards, nine assists, and five blocked shots. Onana scored 15 points, hitting three treys. He also grabbed a career-high six rebounds. Leao added 11 points and six boards, while Bilbo had six points and eight rebounds. Hepburn paced the Eagles with 18 points on 8-18 shooting.
