Men's Hoops to Host #11 IUP Saturday Afternoon

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team hosts #11 Indiana (Pa.) Saturday, February 16. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division contest is slated for a 3 p.m. start at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

The Mercyhurst men's soccer team will be honored at halftime of the game. The Lakers advanced to the Final Four after winning the PSAC regular season and tournament titles.
 
Mercyhurst is 14-10 overall and 10-8 in the PSAC. It is alone in fifth place in the Western Division, one game back of Edinboro and two games ahead of California (Pa.). The Lakers have already clinched a PSAC Tournament bid, but are still in the hunt for a first-round home game. The top four teams from each division will host a home contest in the playoffs.
 
The Lakers lost, 78-51, at Clarion on Wednesday. Luis Leao led with 14 points and eight rebounds, but the Eagles hit 13-22 three-pointers. Marques Jones made 8-10 attempts from long range.
 
Indiana is 19-3 overall and 15-3 in the league. It leads the Western Division by two games and will host at least one first-round home game in the PSAC Tournament. The Crimson Hawks beat Cal, 70-53, on Wednesday. Anthony Wells led with 21 points and five assists.
 
Leao paces the Lakers with 19 points and 6.7 boards per game. Jonathan Ouegnin is putting up 8.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. He is also shooting 54.2 percent from the field.
 
IUP has four players scoring in double figures, led by Mathis Keita with 13.6 points per. Scooter Renkin, Marcel Souberbielle, and Wells combine for 32.2 points per outing.
 
The Hawks allow just 57.1 points per game, fewest in the PSAC and third-fewest in Division II. Mercyhurst is third in the PSAC and 15th in the country, giving up 61.6 points per game. IUP is first in the league in three-point defense, as teams are hitting just 28.5 percent from deep. The Lakers are shooting 77 percent from the free throw line, best in the conference and fourth in the nation, while Indiana ranks third at 75.6 percent (13th nationally).
 
IUP won, 57-54, over the Lakers on January 26. Leao posted 19 points and Terrence Ingram added 14 points. Renkin paced the Hawks with 15 points. Callon Dailey missed a potential tying three-pointer at the buzzer.
