Men's Basketball to Host California (Pa.) Wednesday Night

James Ewing posted 11 points and nine rebounds against Urbana Saturday.
ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's basketball team hosts California (Pa.) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division game on Wednesday, December 4. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.

The Lakers are 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC. They defeated Urbana, 77-52, November 30, as Callon Dailey scored 15 points and Beau Samuelson recorded 14 points on 4-5 three-point shooting. Mercyhurst beat Seton Hill, 79-74, in the Western Division opener November 20.
 
Cal has a 1-5 record, including an 0-2 mark in the league. It lost, 76-61, to West Virginia Wesleyan November 30. The Vulcans fell at Gannon, 59-51, November 20 and lost a home game to Slippery Rock, 74-55, November 23.
 
Jonathan Ouegnin paces the Laker attack with 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. He is one of two players in the PSAC leading his team in scoring, rebounding, and assists this season. Joe Bell of Mansfield is the only other player achieving the feat entering this week.
 
Jean Onana is putting up 10.4 points per game, having connected on 10-19 three-pointers this year. His 52.6 percent shooting from downtown ranks second in the conference.
 
Alonzo Murphy and Tynell Fortune are each scoring 12.5 points per game to lead the Vulcans. Murphy is grabbing 5.7 rebounds a game, while Fortune is one of three Cal players with 12 assists this season.
 
The teams have split two meetings in both of the last two seasons. At the MAC, Ouegnin's buzzer-beating three-pointer gave Mercyhurst a 70-67 overtime victory February 2.
